Recently I’ve noticed a trend where treats and snacks are served inside other edible goods. My first experience was a bowl of clam chowder soup served inside a bread bowl. Since then, I’ve seen bacon, chocolate and hollowed out apples used as a bowl. I’ve even seen eggs cooked inside other vegetables to give it a unique shape or extra flavour.

With the popularity of food and recipe sites and the explosion of ‘foodie’ culture on Instagram and Pinterest, I thought I would take a stab at compiling some of the more popular images floating around online. I’ve also tried to mix in a few delicious examples you may have not seen before. Bon appetit!

Life hacks are little ways to make our lives easier. These low-budget tips and trick can help you organize and de-clutter space; prolong and preserve your products; or teach you something (e.g., tie a full Windsor) that you simply did not know before.

Most of these came from a great post on tumblr. There is also a great subreddit ‘r/lifehacks‘ with some fantastic tips as well.

Just a little update!

So we went to have some green lipped mussels in Lone Star restaurant! The only reason why we went was because we got a $40 voucher for $20 on one of the deals website! It was a really nice place, and we did get 2 margaritas for $15 which is a pretty good deal! Pity that the food came out after a long wait so my mussels were only warm.. and after a few minutes they were cold. But they were tasty! Just a shame they weren’t steaming hot when they came out.

Image

They were bigger than the normal ones you’d see in Ireland, but because I haven’t had any Irish mussels in a long time, I can’t say which is better! Kieran got the Dixie chicken classic which was pretty big! Very tasty though! The chicken was like they had said in the description, “tender”. The coleslaw was pretty much salad with salad dressing, no mayo. It was nice though! Chips were just roast potatos. Mmmm…

We had planned out to go to a pub before coming back, have a pint and play some pool maybe, but unfortunately the plan didn’t follow through because everywhere is closed on sundays! We were done with dinner by about 7pm and there was no where to go after! Nelson turns into a ghost town! So different to Ireland! Because pubs are pretty much ALWAYS open! ha!

On our walk back we decided to go through Anzac Park.. pretty nice!

Swimming in the beach in Tahunanui is super amazing! I love it! I was a bit squeeley going in the first time because it was a bit windy so chilly on my chest going in! But then ya get used to it! Now I love going in for a swim! Because the sun is so hot that most of the time once you’re in you can’t feel any of the wind so just the sun shining through the waters! And the shallower waters always feels warmer than the deep waters. Mmmm…

This morning we went to the beach early to try catch sunrise! But turns out the sun was coming out from behind the mountain so we didnt actually see it! But the view was super pretty! The sand was FREEZING!!! Took my sandals off for a while and had to put it back on because the sand was literally draining out all the heat from my body.

Nelson Market..

SO it was a Saturday yesterday and we decided to go see the Nelson Market which opens from 8 am till 1 pm! It was good to see it, just to say we’ve been there and done that kind of thing! I personally didn’t find it much interesting after the first 10 minutes. If you like jewellery and fruits and vegetables and maybe random little things, you’d like it.. I think I just described the typical market place. 😛 But I guess what I was hoping for was finding fresh green lipped mussels… Oh well.. I did buy a nice straw hat, made 100% from seagrass, made by Serious straws in Mapua.

Spent most of my time then just paddling by the beach in Tahunanui or just walking on the sand! There’s always some kite-surfers around so if you’re into kite-surfing, I say this beach would be a nice visit!

Image

We went to see sunset by the beach later on but the sun was pretty much behind the mountains by the time we decided to go! Still managed to get a nice photo I think..

And the moon was out too!

Belated valentines day..

So we went up to the centre of New Zealand andthe hike up to the top reminded me of Abel Tasman! Not as tough though, but still quite a hike up. But when we got to the top, it was definitely worth it! Amazing view! So if you’re in Nelson, don’t miss out on it!

There were beautiful views 360 degrees around!
